Would you go to the mountains, in the middle of the country and order sushi?  Not only that, would you do that, expecting fresh sushi??  But, if you go to East by Southwest in Durango, CO, you get fresh, fantastic, delicious sushi - and a huge variety of it.  They ensure that the fish that will not keep, will not be served on their menu.

So, whenever we get our sushi craving when we’re out in Durango, we head to East by Southwest and are treated to a delectable meal.

To start, Edamame, a Seaweed Salad (mixed seaweed and cucumber in sesame dressing), and Miso Soup (Hon Dashi broth with white miso, scallion, and silk tofu).

Some great non-sushi rolls:

  • Crab Jalapeño Fire Crackers: Tempura fried jalapeño stuffed with sweet crab, masago, cream cheese, and avocado in mirin dashi
  • Shrimp Spring Rolls

As for sushi and sashimi, we had:

  • Tiradito Sashimi: Halibut and sea bass drizzled in yuzu, lime juice, cilantro, chili paste, Hawaiian red salt, and kaffir lime oil
  • A traditional California Roll
  • Spicy Tuna Roll
  • Rainbow Roll: A California roll wrapped with tuna, white fish, salmon, shrimp, and shiso leaf finished with ponzu
  • Rock & Roll Roll: A roll without rice, but with salmon, ginger, shrimp, sweet crab, avocado, mango, black tobiko, wrapped in daikon radish with sunomono sauce

Definitely a place to stop in!
