Persimmon Spice Cookies
All this cold weather has people holed up in their houses. Which means more time for baking!!! I love that different seasons means that different produce is around - and this can be incorporated into baking. A while ago, I found Eat Live Run’s Persimmon Cookie Recipe - and while I found that I couldn’t eat the persimmons, the cookies were delicious!

Red Drunken Noodles ~ The Merlot Version
When one thinks Drunken Noodles, one normally thinks Thai food. I know I normally do. And I LOVE those! But, another thing I love is pasta and wine. When Tasting Table featured Michael Chiarello’s Zinfandel Spaghetti back in September, I marked the recipe to try.
This past Monday evening, I was having impromptu company for dinner and wanted to make something a little more special, but...

Blood Orange Angel Food Cake
Wayyyyy back on Christmas, I decided to make Blood Orange Angel Food Cake. Why am I sharing this now with you, you ask? Well… with the cold winter weather, a lot of people are making heavy recipes - briskets and chiles. When I make dishes like that, I like to counterbalance them with a light dessert. This citrusy cake fits that mold!

COSMOpolitan... Durango, CO
Cosmopolitan restaurant in Durango is a case of what a small world it is! Chris Crowl, the Executive Chef and Proprieter,’s parents go to my family’s church that we’ve all grown up in. So, we always stop in to Cosmo! To say hello and to enjoy their delicious decadencies. It has a warm ambiance, a good wine list, and Chris (and his team) have an instinct of how to buy and cook...

Sow's Ear... Durango, CO
After all these years going to Durango, we had never made it to the Sow’s Ear. It has been open for pretty much the entire time we’ve been going there (well my parents have… which is longer than I’ve been around!)
The Sow’s Ear is known for “the best steaks on the mountain” and while it is not in Durango technically, it still serves great food! A...

Seasons in Durango, CO
Seasons Rotisserie and Grill is one of our favorite restaurants in Durango, CO. We definitely had our best and favorite meal there this last trip and it has been consistent over the years. American fare with simple, fresh ingredients and impeccably prepared, the food is always delicious. The kitchen is open, the wine list is phenomenal, and there is an electric atmosphere which helps draw...

Jean-Pierre, The French French Baker
New Year’s Eve. 6pm. Durango, CO. We theoretically had a reservation at 8pm. Called to check one thing. Thank goodness! Turns out our reservation was for the next night! We lucked out though because we stopped by Jean-Pierre, the French French Baker and ended up with a reservation for 8pm for our group.
An interesting building that has housed not only a frontier tavern, a stable,...

Francisco's in Durango, CO
My family has a tradition of enjoying traditional Southwestern and Mexican food. One place that we love to go to enjoy it is Francisco’s in Durango, CO. We’ve never been for dinner but on the first day of every trip out there, we go for lunch. A restaurant founded in 1968, it not only has great food, but a history and richness that is seen by the people returning year after year. ...

Durango, CO... Food Destination!
So, it’s been a while (okay, about 2.5 weeks) since I was out there, but I wanted to address a certain issue. Durango, CO is not a hickish town in the middle of nowhere. Okay, yes, it is in (basically) the middle of nowhere. It has a (small) airport on a mesa and it is about 4 hours from a large city (Albuquerque). You also have to traverse over mountain passes to get there from most...

So... I've been MIA...
Not only have I been traveling a lot, but I’ve been dealing with a bunch of other things including work (boo).
Not only that but I’ve been fighting an injury (bah). Back in December, my left hip would bother me once in a while. Not all the time, but enough that I would comment here and there about it. At the beginning of January, when out in CO, I fell down the stairs. Yes,...

Disney Half-Marathon Recap
On Saturday 1/8/11, I completed my first half-marathon in 2 hours and 36 minutes.
I never thought I’d be able to say that I did that. As I said the night before the race, I was both excited and nervous for it. Within a year, I went from not being able to run AT ALL, to LOVING running, racing, and more. I’m completely hooked and Saturday’s half confirmed it.
I woke early...

Tomorrow is the Disney Half Marathon....
A year ago I couldn’t run 30 seconds. A year ago I came up with the plan to do a triathlon. First, of course, came a 5K. Then another. I also completed the tri… and a biathlon and a few more running races including a 15K. I ended up doing over 10 races last year. When the triathlon was completed, I came up with the idea that I could do a half-marathon. Disney seemed to be the...

Last Week of Half-Marathon Training
So…. My (first!) half-marathon is this up-coming Saturday! (gulp!). I’m getting a bit nervous. But I’m also excited. I have been following my training (for the most part) and was talking to a friend who said that if I’m not prepared by now, I’m in trouble. There’s not too much more I can do in the next week. I’ve done my training. This week is...
